Call for Applications for a 1 Research Grant for Doctoral Student

The Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte) of the University Institute of Lisbon announces a call for applications for the award of one (1) Research Grant for a Doctoral Student, within the scope of the project Cmp_Pop Roma – Know, Map, Include: Roma/Gypsy Population in Portugal, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (2023.10572.CIG), in collaboration with the Economic and Social Council and the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum, I.P., under the following conditions:

SCIENTIFIC AREA
Sociology or Social Psychology

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Sociology or Social Psychology and be enrolled in a PhD programme in Sociology or Social Psychology (in accordance with Article 6 of the Research Grants Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. – Regulation No. 950/2019).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
a) Proven experience in the use of SPSS software, as well as in data analysis and the drafting of statistical reports.
b) Experience in supervising and administering questionnaire-based surveys in the field.
c) Proven experience in the use of MAXQDA software.
d) Experience in the administrative management of research projects.
e) Interest in pursuing a PhD and/or conducting research in the field of Roma/Gypsy studies.
f) Proficiency in Portuguese and English.

DURATION OF THE GRANT
The grant has a duration of 5 months, with an expected start date of 2 March. The grant contract may be renewed within the duration of the research project and in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 4 of Article 6 of the Research Grants Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. currently in force.

APPLICATION DEADLINE AND SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
The call is open from 23 January to 5 February.
Applications must be submitted exclusively through the Iscte recruitment portal (https://recrutamento.iscte-iul.pt/jobs) and must include the following documents:

i) Detailed Curriculum Vitae;
ii) Copy of the certificate(s) of completion of Bachelor’s/Master’s/Doctoral degree(s), including a list of completed courses and respective grades;
iii) Proof of enrolment in a doctoral programme leading to the award of a PhD degree, or alternatively, a signed declaration of honour stating that the applicant will be able to provide this document at the time of contract signature;
iv) Other relevant supporting documents, including letter(s) of recommendation and certificates of participation in qualitative or quantitative analysis training/courses (SPSS, MAXQDA), as well as participation in research and/or intervention projects, internships; a copy of the Master’s thesis, previous works or publications, etc.;
v) Proof of proficiency in Portuguese, if Portuguese is not the applicant’s first language / Proof of proficiency in English, if English is not the applicant’s first language. Alternatively, a signed declaration of honour by the applicant;
vi) Motivation letter.
