On October 7, 2024, the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte) held a welcome session for new PhD students. The event began a new academic and research cycle and was attended by the various professors and directors of the centre's doctoral programs.
The session began with a speech by the Director of CIES-Iscte, Teresa Patrício, who highlighted the role of scientific research in building fairer and more inclusive societies, reinforcing CIES' commitment to supporting the academic development of new doctoral students.
The session was also attended by the Director of the School of Sociology and Public Policy, Helena Carvalho, and the respective directors of the doctoral programs, who introduced themselves and welcomed the students, promoting an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration.
During the session, funding and mobility opportunities for doctoral students that the centre usually supports were presented, including the annual call for FCT Individual Scholarships, ESPP Merit Scholarships and Scholarships for the Development of Pedagogical and Scientific Skills.
The centre also encourages doctoral students to participate in research networks, mainly through COST actions. Finally, the possibilities for mobility through the Erasmus+ program were also presented.
