João Moreira receives double distinction for innovative thesis in History

João Moreira, author of the thesis “Portuguese intellectuals and the idea of the left in a time of transition (1968-1986). The cases of António José Saraiva, Eduardo Prado Coelho and João Martins Pereira”, defended this year under the Interuniversity PhD Program in History: change and continuity in a global world, was awarded two research prizes in the area of History. During his PhD, CIES-Iscte was the host institution for his Research Grant, awarded by the FCT.

 

 

The first award is the Mário Soares-Fundação EDP 2023 Prize, which was awarded on December 11, 2023, in the José Gomes Mota Auditorium at the Mario Soares and Maria Barroso Foundation in Lisbon.

 

João Moreira's research work was also distinguished with the Victor de Sá Prize for Contemporary History 2023, the most prestigious prize for young researchers in the field of Portuguese Contemporary History, awarded by the University of Minho. The award ceremony will take place on December 14, 2023, at the Rectory of the University of Minho, in Braga.

 

The award-winning PhD thesis was supervised by Professor Luísa Tiago de Oliveira (CIES-Iscte) and Professor Rui Bebiano (University of Coimbra) and is an in-depth investigation into the role of three intellectuals in the transformations of Portugal at the time.
