PRESENTATION
The main motivation for the introduction of the PhD in School Administration and Management Policies at Iscte was the demand for excellent postgraduate training in the area of public policies in education and school administration, combined with the production of innovative scientific knowledge.
This PhD is also a continuation of the Master's in School Administration, which has been running at Iscte since 2011 and also at other higher education institutions, and is a response to further studies in this area of training.
It is a course recognized for career progression for teachers in public establishments by the Directorate-General for School Administration.

“The PhD in School Administration and Management Policies seeks to contribute to the training of the highly qualified staff needed to develop and implement education policies, whether in central administration, public and private school groupings or local administration.”l.”
The program consists of two semesters of teaching and six semesters for the development of the thesis with guided research work.
The curriculum of the first year will be oriented around problems in the context of the administration and management of schools and the education system, with several CUs promoting teaching seminars to identify themes and objects of research, illustrate national and international research projects and dialog with actors working in specific contexts.
In the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years, the development of the Thesis is planned, which will be accompanied by a Research Seminar in School Administration and Management and an International Conference Cycle, the aim of which is to complement and support the research process, contributing to the scientific framework and opening up analytical perspectives in the development of a thesis in this area. Its development will be scientifically hosted by CIES-Iscte.

Given the persistent qualification deficits in Portuguese society and the difficulties in extending advanced and successful schooling paths, this PhD aims to contribute to the provision of highly qualified agents with the capacity to reflect and act in the education system, through the instruments of administration and management. -

To promote advanced research and debate on the education system, in its theoretical, methodological and analytical components, in national and international terms. -
Transfer to society.
Keeping abreast of national and international agendas in the field of education, seeking to intervene in the discussion of its main issues in a way that is grounded in its theoretical and analytical references, contributing to the development of the education system and the improvement of school results.
