I
earned
a
PhD
in
Sociology
(2003)
and
Habilitation
(2009)
from
the
University
of
Minho,
where
I
began
my
academic
career
in
1997.
Since
2017,
I
have
served
as
a
Full
Professor
of
Sociology.
In
2025,
I
joined
CIES,
ISCTE-IUL
(Lisbon)
as
an
Invited
Coordinator
Researcher.
My
leadership
roles
include
serving
as
Chair
of
the
Scientific
Council
for
Arts,
Humanities,
and
Social
Sciences
at
the
Portuguese
Foundation
for
Science
and
Technology
(since
2023)
and
previously
as
Dean
of
the
Institute
for
Social
Sciences,
University
of
Minho
(2019–2022).
Research
&
Contributions
My
work
explores
the
interplay
between
science,
technology,
and
society,
focusing
on
human
identification
technologies—from
forensic
genetics
to
artificial
intelligence.
